Lily and I are what many now called empty nesters. We have four grown sons, one daughter-in-law, and one grandchild, Autumn. One son is in Texas, two are in California and one is in Oregon. We are what polite circles refer to as mature, however, the body ages, but the mind and spirit don’t have to grow old and brittle.
Working for Kmart left me little time for sports. If it had not been for Lily's die-hard attitude for the Mariners I would have been content to only care about football. A couple of years ago we discovered the Blazers and now we follow them closer than any other team or sport.
Before attending George Fox Evangelical Seminary I was a general store manager for Kmart, managing stores in California, inner city LA, Texas, Washington and Oregon. All that time Lily filled in for my many family absences.
I graduated with a Masters in Divinity 4/25/08. I also received a certificate in Spiritual Formation.
Having spent almost 28 years of my life with Kmart I would like to give the Lord the next 28 years. If I must define my vision I would say it is to be a rope holder, an encourager, a helper. My desire is to find a place in a community motivated first and foremost by a visible love for God that is evident in how they treat others, inside and outside of the church.
I strongly resonate with what Thomas Oden wrote, "My concern is not primarily with knocking down beliefs but with upbuilding, not with polemics but with peacemaking, not with differences but with consensus, not with development of doctrine but with the unity of the Christian tradition, which has so astutely and imaginatively addressed so many different cultural environments." Thomas C. Oden, The Living God : Systematic Theology, Vol. I. (San Francisco, CA: HarperSanFrancisco, 1992), xii.
My passion for video editing started as a hobby in May, 2002. It provided me with the opportunity of making others feel better about themselves and helped with tuition. Word of mouth gradually converted a passion into a small business that helped defer seminary costs. It was encouraging to be asked to show one of my video class devotions at the Inaugural Banquet for George Fox University’s 12th President, Robin E. Baker.
The name Yukon Angel Productions is from our two dogs, Yukon and Angel. Yukon died of cancer in 2005. Angel died of a broken heart a couple of weeks later. Yukon was five. Angel was thirteen.
Lily and I are (big) dog lovers. We raised our boys with dogs. Yukon is the only dog we’ve been with who died young. We always had two dogs to stagger the ages. The younger would help the older stay young. Losing two dogs we loved very much at almost the same time was very difficult. It has taken my wife and I over three years now to be ready to have another dog ... of course we want another Great Pyreenes.
Lily has her own business and for the last couple of years we have also been house sitting. In the meantime I keep working with video while I search.
As we search and wait and pray we continue to love Oregon, its open-minded people as well as the beautiful scenery.
